about

I wrote this song following the rise of old growth/pipeline protests around British Columbia while I was living in Nelson B.C.

The climate catastrophe is now, yet we continue blindly and recklessly on our path of overconsumption and greed. Now is the time to let go of these unsustainable habits of extraction and return to more harmonious relationships with our beautiful planet.

*100% of profits from this song will go towards supporting land defenders in their bravery and courage.

"To love a place is not enough. We must find ways to heal it" -Robin Wall Kimmerer

lyrics

The atmosphere she chokes on
Pitiful plumes of smelted smoke ya,
We can't hear her choke
No no because we are making too much noise
We're too loud
How can we act this proud

Rivers are stained with grey and brown
As we cut our last old growth trees down
And we force our way through indigenous lands
Just to get our fix from those dirty tar sands

How can we pretend
How can we pretend we're not nearing the end?
The end is so goddamn near

And in our souls we are empty inside
So we rush to the stores to see what there is to buy
But consuming won't heal the great divide
Inside of ourselves inside of society no

Cause we're too loud
How can we act this proud
We're too loud
How can we act this proud

Rivers are stained with grey and brown
As we cut our last old growth trees down
And we force our way through indigenous lands
Just to get our fix from those dirty tar sands

We are not apart we're from the same heart as the trees
We are not apart we're from the same heart as the sea
We are not apart don't you understand we're from the same heart as the land
We are not apart don't you understand we're from the same heart as each other
If we act right now don't you know we've got a last chance to recover
We're from the same heart were not apart from each other

Mmmmm.......
